A popular show on T.V. is "SHARK TANK". It just celebrated its 100th episode and reflections were made by the Sharks, aka the assessors/financial sponsors. I'm not certain what title they give themselves. The presenters are given a certain time period to make their pitch to the "Sharks". I used to think it was edgy to compare the tank to the dwellings of an animal not revered by many. However, I realize there is an underlying message which is appropriate to the equine community. Some trainers will tell you it's important to keep the horse moving so it doesn't have time to think (or over think) the scenario and decide to react inappropriately. When a business venture doesn't seem to move along as it had been anticipated, a smart owner will make a move in a different direction. Many times the move is to keep up with what's current, or just to discover is there is a niche which hadn't been addressed prior. When diagnosing a medical condition or behavioral condition, equine owners are moving constantly sometimes to the point of being frustrated and financially strapped. AT what point should a decision be made to stop the movement/investigation and make a significant change, or to continue in another direction with the same horse? I suppose it boils down to "How badly do you want the horse?" and to see the success of its skills and competencies. Too often owners become attached to the horse and now a business asset has become a business deficit and ultimately another family pet. To swim among the sharks means to stay alert to stay alive. To swim among the sharks means having situational awareness and recognizing the risks incurred. This equine owner is considering the benefits of an equine chiropractor for one of the horses owned. Lets see if moving in this direction pays off and is worth the time and investment.
