It can seem like a double-edge sword being a horse owner, and not just of one equine. Most owners have a menagerie of cats, dogs, cows, pigs; you name it! Finding a happy medium and/or balance to devote attention to all can be overwhelming at times. Then add the stress of December with the pressure to buy presents for all your loved ones, PLUS, the farrier, mail carrier, etc. It never ends with the expectation of needing to provide a gift to all who have given you a service. Maybe it's time to give presents at Halloween - no tricks, just a treat. This way you're DEFINITELY ahead of everyone else; you have money which you won't have come Thanksgiving and Christmas not to mention property taxes which are usually due the end of the year. Luckily for horse owners we have a means to de-stress: Spend time with our horses and other animals. There's a reason dogs and recently horses are used for therapy. They provide a calming effect. What's calming too although it doesn't seem so at the time - is to make even a minimal payment on the large vet bill which you've been carrying forward for quite a while. You'd be surprised when you admit to being stressed; guess what? So is the vet and his/her associates! Once the effort is made to be a responsible customer/client, now all the worry is diminished and the true emotions can evolve - love for one's horse; whether in the saddle or just picking up a brush to give it some attention. :-)
